New Music//Jamie XX
After being a huge fan of the XX since their first album “the xx” and followed up with “coexist” I’ve always been in love with their sound and the rhythm that made all of their songs have that nostalgic feel to them. Romy, Oliver, Baria, and Jamie made up this amazing group. The group as a whole hasn’t released anything relatively new in a couple years but I managed to catch Jamie’s DJ set at FYF in Los Angeles last year and it was amazing. I’ve been following his solo project ever since and was beyond stoked to find out he was releasing an entire album.
Jamie XX released his first debut album titled "In Colour” on May 29th of this year and it's nothing short of incredible. I haven't been this happy with an album as a whole in a long time, especially in the electronic / dance music genre. Jamie brings some of the most enjoyable melodies to the table along with a genre that can't quite be pin-pointed. He goes in every which way with his tracks and seems to always throw you a curveball once you think you've got a hang of his sound. With every track being so unique in it's own way, you must listen to this album from start to finish. A handful of his tracks make you want to get up and dance and others just inspire you to create.
There's also two tracks featuring the phenomenal Romy Madley-Croft from the xx and they're some of my favorites on the album titled “SeeSaw” and “Loud Places”. You can stream the entire album here or you can purchase a hardcopy as well on Jamie’s website.
