Coasts and Bad Suns//January 30

Two months without a concert had me feeling slightly concert deprived, and seeing Maudlin Strangers, Coasts, and Bad Suns last Thursday at the Hawthorne Theatre in Portland was the perfect fix. I had never heard of Maudlin Strangers and was pleasantly surprised. I was extremely impressed with this band’s musical talent. They were great live, and come to find out just as great recorded in a studio. Following this newly discovered gem was British band, Coasts. It was a little under two years ago when I stumbled upon their song Oceans on sound cloud and I have since been in love. Seeing Coasts was what I spent the entire week looking forward to and thankfully I was not disappointed. Their stage essence was powerful and had the entire audience engaged. One of the greatest joys in life has to be hearing one of your favorite songs played live for the first time and I felt that joy when they closed their set with Oceans. And last, but not least came Bad Suns. This was my fourth time seeing Bad Suns. I stood there in the sold-out crowd listening to the familiar sounds reminiscing on the first time I saw them in Denver at the Marquis Theater in the middle of a blizzard with what was maybe 18 others in the venue with me. It is such a treasure seeing how far they have come within this past year.
